Sustainable banking: A literature review and integrative framework

The literature on sustainable banking has been prolific since the beginning of century. This context prompts need to understand and categorize an increasingly heterogeneous body literature. We perform a review using bibliometric techniques 676 articles published between 1995 2019 in Web Science (WoS) database. Our results provide perspective evolution over time across academic categories journals. An integrative framework emerges from review, providing comprehensive nine clusters or thematic areas embedded three domains: Ethical Foundations, Sustainable Products, Business-Case. integrates rich banking, maps predominant research areas, highlights primary gaps. Finally, demonstrates progressive convergence instrumental ethical approaches banking. importance both vivid societal debate around role banks advancement toward sustainability business rationale for engage strategies.
